Show: Wicked
Date: 2/14/09
Cast: Nicole Parker as Elphaba. Alli Mauzey as Glinda. Aaron Tveit as Fiyero
Type: Audio
Well, to be honest I wasn't in love with it. The show's a mess and just feels too damn long. Aaron was nice to hear. I was kind of expecting to like Alli and ended up not quite. Her singing was good, but her Stevie impression doesn't need to be on Broadway. Nicole was okay. Not mindblowing.

Day 100-1/27/10
Show: Shrek
Date: 9/7/09
Cast: Brian D'Arcy James (Shrek), Daniel Breaker (Donkey), Haven Burton (Fiona), Christopher Sieber (Lord Farquad), Rob Sapp (Pinocchio), Kirsten Wyatt (Teen Fiona)
Type: Audio
First off, I liked Haven and Kirsten more than I like the usual Fionas. I didn't like Rob Sapp as much as I like John, though. My friend Siena told me (when I was messing around on her formspring) that it was pretty much the movie with music. I completely agree. They used so much of the movie's dialogue that they really only added songs. They could have been a little more original, like Legally Blonde and Addams Family. I was not blown away.

Show: Hair
Date: 1/21/10
Cast: Bryce as Berger. Jackie as Sheila. Josh as Maggie. Ryan as Steele/Paris. Others, probably.
Type: Audio
Bryce was pretty good. Jackie was awesome. Let The Sun Shine In was great. But the real standout was Josh. I loved listening to him so much. He wasn't really even on my radar until he started twittering but now he is really proving himself to be a standout.

Day 97-2/24/10
Show: Bye Bye Birdie
Date: 1/24/10 Closing Night
Cast: Full
Type: Audio
Good show. Lot of energy. A lot of emotion. Matt was better than usual. Personally I didn't like John's speech. He basically made excuses, rationalizations, and retorts to the bad press and word of mouth that the show got. Oh, BTW, Gina was awful. I usually don't mind her in English Teacher, but she this time she was bad start to finish.

Day 96-2/23/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 2/23/08
Cast: Matt Doyle as Melchior, Alexandra Socha as Wendla, Jesse Swenson as Hanschen
Type: Audio
Like I said in the last post, Socha's Wendla and Matt's Melchior are a decent fit. Jesse's Hanschen isn't perfect...it's a little off vocally and a little off in acting. But overall it's a great show.

Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 2/22/08
Cast: Jesse Swenson as Melchior, Alexandra Socha as Wendla
Type: Audio
Jesse is decent. And Socha was pretty much *alright* I've been through this before...it's a little of a mismatch with them. He makes a fine Melchior but there's never been a Wendla to match him. He needs to be with a Wendla who sounds more mature. Not someone who has a high pitched voice. And maybe she would be better with a Melchior that sounds younger than he should me. I guess Matt kind of works for this analysis!

Day 94-2/21/10
Show: Matt Doyle at Joe's Pub
Date: 8/27/09
Cast: Matt Doyle, Lilli Cooper, Blake Daniel, Alice Lee
I love it. Always. Matt is such a beautiful singer. Golden Train is perfect and so is Falling Slowly. He picked songs that played to the voices so well. I'm not in love with Bring it On Home. I liked it more with Jodie Moore.
Matt's big problem is that he does a lot of the same songs. He needs to shake it up. Get out of his comfort zone. I'm now trying to brainstorm songs for him....I Got Life, Blackbird, Good Girls Go Bad (Although he might want to change it to Good Boys) I don't know. After seeing Koberet I thought to myself that I'd love to see Matt play around like that.

Day 93-2/20/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 6/6/09
Cast: Tour. Julie Benko as Ilse
Type: Audio
I didn't hate Kyle or Blake as much as usual. Christy, I still only liked in TGO. Julie was very animated as Ilse. A lot of energy and personality into her speaking parts. It's not quite how I like it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as Steffi. And her singing was really pretty and totally compensated for her slightly off action.

Type: Audio
Alice wasn’t all that great. Her voice bothered me here. Jenn was iffy, she had noticeable difficult in Everything Else. Bobby struggled in Who’s Crazy he cracked a little bit then stopped to clear his throat. Michael was Dan in Act 2, which I noticed the first word he said. I’m not sure about him. I don’t know if he sounds right for the show. He’s got more of a musical theatrey voice which might not work for Next to Normal.

Show: Hair
Date: 2/2/10
Cast: Jay as Claude, Megan as Jeanie.
Type: Audio :(
I'm not sure if I can pair words with my love for Jay's Claude. It's just really good. He starts off so different from Gavin. Gavin has a good fake britsh accent. Jay has a fake british accent that isn't good. But that actually makes it work really well. What I love so unbelievably much is the way Jay talks. He has some kind of quirky youthful voice which I think completely works for Claude. Every time he spoke you could hear his personality. His singing was great and he had great energy. Megan was also really good where she excels is Jeanie's little "speeches." The one after Air really impressed me with how blissful and dreamy she sounded. The one after Easy to Be Hard was great in that it sounded a little bit upset with the world. Everything else was great and typical Hair

It's very weird. They did a lot of the same songs that Matt Doyle did at his performances. Adam sang How Glory Goes, they sang Falling Slowly, they sang Crush and the thing was that Matt just sounds better than Adam. Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind was pretty good. But the overall thing about it was that Jenn was much better than Adam.

Wright (Hanschen), Jennifer Damiano (u/s Thea)
Type: Audio
Pretty decent show. Groff sounded wonderful. Lea was decent. John sounded maybe a little too spazy. Skylar was excellent in Touch Me. Lilli was excellent in Dark I Know Well. Lauren was great in Blue Wind but I realized her acting isn't exactly great. JBW was not strong to me, I know some people say he's great but I'm not impressed. Phoebe may be one of the few Anna's who make me really like the character. Blake was great but sounded a little nervous. And Jenn was a decent Thea. She had some spunk to her.
Standout songs were Bitch of Living, Touch Me, My Junk, Totally Fucked, and Song of Purple Summer

Show: Bye Bye Birdie

Cast: Robi Hager as Conrad
Type: Audio
So what I found to be really good for ignoring how atrocious Gina is, is imagining my dance teacher Sara playing Rosie. It works so well because Sara's Latina and a fierce ass dancer.
John isn't so impressive. It just doesn't really work for me.
Matt sounded kind of deep in One Boy. It didn't sound bad, just it didn't exactly go with Allie's higher voice.
Robi has a much deeper smoother voice than Nolan. He didn't put as much pizazz and pitch, I think it's because he didn't need to. He sounded creepier than Nolan as well.

Show: Hair

Cast: Ryan Link as Berger
Type: Audio
Let me begin with an explanation. This was Ryan's first time as Berger. He didn't go on again until September. That doesn't seem like TERRIBLY long, I mean there was a multi-month stretch in which Matt didn't go on for Melchior. But what makes it interesting is that during this 3-month stretch was Will Swenson's vacation. Why didn't Ryan go on during the vacation? Because the producers thought he was a crappy Berger and took the spots he would have done and gave them to Steel Burkhardt.
Now, Here's what I thought about his Berger in a nutshell: Pretty good.
He has a normal voice. That sounds like a stupid thing to point out but he had to force some of what Will does naturally. But you could hear the effort! Will uses a very interesting voice in Stone Age and you could tell that Ryan was trying to pull it off. I did not totally hate his Berger at all.

I know I listened to the audio from the evening already but I needed to find a show and I randomly clicked this one. Alice is absolutely gorgeous, I wasn't totally in love with Zach and Eryn was super haunting and beautiful. Hunter was weak, Matt was gorgeous.

Day 79-2/6/10
Show: In the Heights OBCR
It's got catchy parts but I found it difficult to understand the plot. Some songs I did understand. I was listening during JLC and Atencion and Alabanza made me cry which really isn't good because people are constantly passing by me giving me weird looks. One thing that makes me sad is every time they say Vanessa I want to throw up.

Excerpt
exNot long after I had gotten to my dressing room, Lexi was standing by me looking very cross.
"Where were you?" she asked angrily.
I didn't want to answer, so I only said "Sorry!"
"That's all I get?" Do know know all the trouble your not showing up caused?"
I nodded "Probably alot. I'm sorry."
"Where were you?" she yelled viciously.
"At the library?"
"Does it have to do with the movie?"
"Nope." I was reluctant to say more.
"Then what was so important?"
I sighed and pulled out everything that I checked out of the library and put it on the table. Lexi looked confused as she read the titles.
"You have an eating disorder?"
"No." I said firmly. "But can you think of anyone who might?"
"I don't!" She said defensively.
I shook my head "I'm not saying it's you. I know you're not the one who just spent hours researching signs and situations, but just think..."
And then it dawned on her.
"Oh my gosh. What are you going to do?"
"Everything said that just talking is the best idea. So I'm going to do that, see where it goes."
"Mmkay" she nodded "let me know if you need help."
And then she left

- Got terrible reviews. Wasn't horrendous but it was poorly constructed. Sandra, Bradley, and Senor Chen from Community are good actors. But they were used in the wrong way.
- Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (with Mom)
- Ahhhdorable. And really it was quite a cast. The Chipmunks were Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney. The Chipettes were Amy Poehler, Christina Applegate and Anna Faris. Interestingly, Christina and Anna were both on Friends. Theodore (Jesse) was so cute he kept making me cry. And when I saw that Matthew played Simon I was not at all surprised. His character on Criminal Minds is so similar.
- Angels and Demons (with Katherine)
- It's like National Treasure if you subtract all the funny and make it more confusing. I don't understand the religious stuff or the science stuff. And they never explained things!
- The Blind Side (with Mom and Dad)
- I would have never seen this if I hadn't been dragged to it. But it was amazing. So touching. Sandra was incredible. It was inspiring and everything.
- Bride Wars (with Dad)
- It's like watching Gossip Girl except with a serious lack of cute guys and longer and you can't walk out of the room.
- Confession of a Shopaholic (with Dad)
- So predictable but really great. I really liked Isla Fisher's acting. And the Luke was super charming
- Couples Retreat (with Dad)
- Thank god for the other 3 couples because I can only take so much Vince Vaughn. There were quite a few Community cast members who were quite funny.
- Did You Hear About the Morgans? (with Dad)
- Also a terribly reviewed movie. It was very predictable but it had some really witty jokes about democrats, PETA, and New York. What really made it so bad was how much Sarah Jessica Parker sucks at acting. Seriously, she sounds whiny and emotionless. Hugh Grant on the other hand was quite good. He had a charm and sparkle and whit that worked so well.
- Duplicity (with Dad)
- Not Oceans 11 but it had that aspect of "wait? what? Go back!" Clive Owen and Julia Roberts were great actors. It's a clever movie with a sprinkle of suspense
- Duplicity (with Katherine)
- I had a very hard time paying attention. I actually took out my ipod and started watching a Spring Awakening bootleg.
- Everybody's Fine (with Dad)
- My dad is very smart. Except when he's not. An example of being not smart was picking this. He thought it would be a comedy with a pinch of drama to make things interesting. He's an idiot. This was probably the worst movie I saw in 2009. I tried to fall asleep during it. I hated it. It was just depressing and boring. Blah blah.
- Funny People (with Dad)
- Adam Sandler is not funny. Seth Rogen is not funny. Jonah Hill is not funny. Leslie Mann is surprisingly funny. This should have been called Funny Person And The Comedian who totally isn't. Not a funny movie except Leslie Mann sobbing at her daughter's rendition of Memories from Cats
- Ghost of Girlfriends Past (with Dad)
- Got terrible ratings but was not the worst movie ever. It was tragically predictable but I always appreciate movies that feature a huge player as the main character. I just wish they didn't try to make him reform. They really could have used Lacey Chabert (who played Gretchen in mean girls) more than they did.
- The Hangover (with Mom)
- I put off seeing this for a long time thinking that it would be like SUPERBAD. Everyone says its funny, but it really sucks. But it had such a great cast! They were all hilarious. And it's so quotable. "Paging Dr. Faggot" "You can't leave a baby in the closet, there's a tiger in the bathroom!" I could have done without the elderly couple coming into the theater 10 minutes late and sitting next to me although the theater was empty and scolding me for texting. I also could have done without the spanish group sitting behind me commenting in Spanish.
- Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (with Mom)
- My least favorite Harry Potter book. Too much romance. Too much making out. Everything else was alright
- He's Just Not That Into You (with Dad)
- I saw this right after I had gotten into Bare. So I was a little distracted by the extension that I thought would fit well (if you know what I mean ;) ) But it's a decent movie. Justin Long and Ginnifer Goodwin were cute. Scarlett Johanson is a terrrrrible actress.
- Ice Age 3 (with Katherine)
- Katherine wanted to see 500 Days of Summer. I wanted to see this. So we saw this. I loved it. Sadly, it's my type of movie. There were 3 groups in the theater. The kids in the front with their mother. Me and Katherine. and the kids in the back with the father. There quite a few jokes that only the father in the back and I understood.
- The Invention of Lying (with Dad)
- Mehhhhh. It's original. That's for sure. But Ricky Gervais was not super funny.
- It's Complicated (with the Christmas Crowd. and Dad)
- Oh my god. So funny. Meryl Streep was brilliance. Steve Martin was super funny. Alec Baldwin was....Alec Baldwin. And John Krasinski was super awesome. I cracked up so much.
- Julia and Julia (with Dad)
- Meryl and Stanley were fantastic. Amy Adams was pretty good, but she's better than that
- Mall Cop (with Dad)
- It's exactly what you'd expect from a movie with Kevin James about a Mall Cop.
- New Moon (with Mom)
- Bleeeeeeccch. Robert Pattinson was a fucking mess, Kristen Stewart was crap on a plate. Taylor Lautner's hot but not a good actor.
- Night at the Museum 2 (with Dad and the Beach Crowd)
- I loved it. It took place in the Smithsonian which makes me happy. Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan were brilliant. Hank Azaria was good in all three roles. Ben Stiller was Ben Stiller :)
- Pink Panther 2 (with Dad)
- Really funny. Good for a sequel. The love stuff had strange moments. Someone told me that the villain reminded me of them :) I take that as a compliment
- The Proposal (with Dad)
- So great. Love Betty White. Love the mom (who was also in Did You Hear About the Morgans?) Craig T. Nelson played his character perfectly. Ryan Renolds was great. Sandra Bullock was great. But the standout was Betty. She was hilarious in the woods scene. And I was the only person in the entire theater to understand what Sandra was singing so I was cracking up a good 10 seconds before everyone else. By the way, that is now the theme dance of our basketball team.
- The Proposal (with Katherine)
- I spent the entire movie playing vortex on my ipod. The movie was great but it didn't require undivided attention.
- Race to Witch Mountain (with Dad)
- I was beyond impressed for a disney movie. It was really good! It was funny, Dwayne Johnson's a really good actor. And that girl looks like Catherine Blades.
- Sherlock Holmes (with Dad)
- Robert Downey Junior and Jude Law play their characters to perfection. Rachel McAdams was brilliant as always. It seemed a little more James Bond than Sherlock Holmes, though. I'm so glad they explained everything in the end.
- The Soloist (with Grandma Sue)
- My Grandma loves me. But because I was so busy we didn't get a lot of chances to hang out. When I was working on my Broadway Project for English, she called and invited me to see this with her. I didn't want to but my dad said sometimes we do things we don't want to do to make other people happy. The movie was terrible. Well, it wasn't terrible. It was really emotional and touching. But not a movie I would ever pick/want to see in a thousand years.
- Star Trek (with Mom)
- I was kind of confused by it, but the action was so cool and exciting!
- Star Trek (with Dad)
- Star Trek (with Katherine)
- Star Trek (with Grandpa Marv)
- The theater was almost empty.
- State of Play (with Grandma Harriet)
- Grandma looooves Ben Affleck and she thought he looked fiiiine. But it was an exciting intense movie!
- State of Play (with Dad)
- Taken (with Rachel)
- So intense! Liam Neeson is such a badass!
- The Ugly Truth (with Dad and Grandma Harriet)
- Oh my god. Awkward. But hilarious. But so awkward
- Up in The Air (with Dad)
- George Clooney was really in his element. It was quite clever
- Year One (with Dad)
- Typical Jack Black+Typical Michael Cera = BLEEEECCCCH

Day 78-2/5/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 10/11/09
Cast: Jake Epstein (Melchior), Taylor Trensch (Moritz), Christy Altomare (Wendla), Steffi D (Ilse), Sarah Hunt (Martha), Andy Mientus (Hanschen), Ben Fankhauser (Ernst), Matt Shingledecker (Georg), Kimiko Glenn (Thea), Gabrielle Garza (Anna), Anthony Lee Medina (Otto), John Wojda (Adult Men), Angela Reed (Adult Women), Krystina Alabado, Justin Scott Brown, Lucas A Wells, Kayla Foster (Ensemble)
Jake was pretty good. Taylor was refreshingly normal. Christy was inconsistent. Sometimes she hit a really nice not and then she'd hit a not so great note. Ben F was better than Ben M but not very impressive. And everyone else was pretty much ignorable.

Day 77-2/4/10
Show: Hair
Date: 5/7/09
Cast: Gavin Creel (Claude), Will Swenson (Berger), Jackie Burns* (Sheila), Bryce Ryness (Woof), Darius Nichols (Hud), Sasha Allen (Dionne), Kacie Sheik (Jeanie), Allison Case (Crissy), Andrew Kober (Father/Margaret Mead), Megan Lawrence (Mother), Theo Stockman (Hubert/Principal/Tribe), Briana Carlson-Goodman* (Black Boys Trio/Tribe), Megan Reinking Black Boys Trio/Tribe), Kaitlin Kiyan (Black Boys Trio /Tribe), Nicole Lewis (White Boys Trio/Tribe), Saycon Sengbloh (White Boys Trio/Tribe), Ato Blankson-Wood (Tribe), Steel Burkhardt (Tribe), Lauren Elder (Tribe), Allison Guinn (Tribe), Michael James-Scott* Tribe) John Moauro (Tribe), Brandon Pearson (Tribe), Paris Remillard (Tribe), Maya Sharpe (Tribe), Tommar Wilson (Tribe)
So I just have a few comments:
-I Believe in Love was kind of shaky
-But her story about the march and scene with Berger was perfect.
-Easy to be Hard was good, minus her occasionally odd pronunciation.
-I hadn't noticed that the chorus parts in many of the songs, but mostly Where Do I Go were so pretty.
-Gavin was a little weak vocally.
-Let The Sun Shine In was pretty emotional.

Day 76-2/3/10
Show: Legally Blonde
Date: 2/22/08
Cast: Becky Gulsvig (u/s Elle), Christian Borle (Emmett), Jason Gillman (u/s Warner), Kate Shindle (Vivienne), Michael Rupert (Callahan), Orfeh (Paulette), Michelle Kittrell (u/s Serena), Haven Burton (Margot), Asmeret Ghebremichael (Pilar), Nikki Snelson (Brooke), Kate Wetherhead (Kate/Chutney), Andy Karl (Dewey/Karl), Natalie Joy Johnson (Enid), Gaelen Gilliland (Mom/Whitney), Kevin Pariseau (Dad/Winthrop), Matthew Risch (Carlos), Manuel Herrera (Nikos/Padamadan), Bryce Ryness (Aaron/Guard), Rod Harrelson (u/s Judge - swing)
Type: Audio
Snaps for Becky! I thought she sounded really beautiful. Less twangy than LBB. I have to say I really missed Annaleigh as Serena :(
And the plot annoys me a little. First, applying to Harvard law is like applying to TJ. If Elle got in over me, I would kill myself. And second, Brooke did not have enough evidence against her. The DA should have never filed that case!
