I'm shocked. I had no idea that Christy was playing Kate. I actually thought she was pretty good. Everything was good! Once again very enjoyable.
Although I was kind of wondering how someone came up with the idea for it. It's such an original show and I know that I (who is very creative) wouldn't have thought of it!

I'm really loving Paris's Claude. His speaking voice is really really nice. Also Ryan's Woof was great. There wasn't anything super special he seemed to do, and he has a normal voice but he made it all work really nicely. I know that Katie's Crissy isn't that popular because Frank Mills just doesn't sound right for her voice, but I thought it was really pretty. At some parts it was a little weaker and you could hear the strain, but a lot sounded pretty, like a lullaby.
Also I kind of wonder who said "Tonto say white man die" because someone told me that Jay once did it kind of like a robot, and it sounded a little robotic here.

Date: 1/11/05
Cast: Shoshana Bean (Elphaba), Jennifer Laura Thompson (Glinda), David Ayers (Fiyero), Michelle Federer (Nessarose) , George Hearn (Wizard), Carole Shelley (Madame Morrible), William Youmans (Dr. Dillamond), Jeffery Kuhn (Boq)
Type: Audio
So, I actually liked this one.
Kidding. Kind of.
I didn't like the plot any more than I usually do, but I liked the voices so much better. I like how Shoshana's voice has a mixture of powerful and sweetness. The only part where she wasn't so great was in Wizard and I and Defying Gravity. In both songs when she says "Meeeeeeeeee" she sounded kind of weak.
Jennifer was really great. She didn't play Galinda as annoying and forced cutesy as the others I've heard before her. Her voice was beautiful and I was impressed. Not that I was surprised, a friend of mine pretty much knows every Glinda backwards and forwards and said that she's the best.

To be honest, I didn't know it was Jenn as Natalie until I just looked it up now. She didn't really sound like herself...maybe that's why the next audio I have (June 25th) is Meghann as Natalie. Jenn was fine, just less strong than usual. And Kyle's really growing on me. Can't say I found anything too bad about his performance. Alice has been seeming kind of shaky. She's puts 100% in and I'm not sure if she's getting the full hundred back. I am the one reprise pretty much killed me. So did light. Both were super emotional and wonderful

I really like the opening song, even though it's supposedly a big dance number, it's still fun to listen to and it got stuck in my head.
Also the into to Second Banana is verrry similar to the intro to Little Me. It was weird.
Crazier Than You is probably my favorite song, totally got stuck in my head.
And all in all it was great.
Oh, and I love Wesley Taylor

So wow. This was an amazing show. Bryce's Berger was a huge shock to the ears at first. But then I got used to it, and it really is quite good. He has a really good singing voice and his characterization was really interesting. Jackie's Sheila was awesome, so was Paris' Woof. Gavin was actually really great, sounded so on. Hair was really interesting, kind of like "Woof and Claude?" Jackie's Sheila is quite softer speaking. She sounds a lot sweeter. Bryce also sounds quite a bit less idiotically goofy, which made the shirt scene a little more serious. Easy to Be Hard was really beautiful, Jackie sounds very emotional. Caissie usually sounds emotional, but in a different way. Jackie's is softer and more vulnerable. Less forceful. Josh's Father was less deep and scary, a little more realistic and Margaret was very shy kind of timid seeming. I think where Jackie beats Caissie for me is when she speaks, she just sounds so personable and sincere. I really liked how Bryce didn't really talk any different, that's not actually a slight at Matt although it sounds like it. I really missed "Tonto say white man die" in the trip. It was because Ryan was in for both Steel and Paris, and he was saying Steel's line at this point. My aunt knows him. Well, anyway, he was good in What a Piece of Work is Man. Bryce was super emotional in the Ain't Got No Reprise and Flesh Failures. I really loved this. I also had about a dozen great ideas for the movie. Oh and also, Gavin just sounded soooooo on this show. It was awesome :D

So I guess Legally Blonde has really been growing on me. Well, this was fun to listen to. They have accents, but it only leaks through a little bit and sometimes it just sounds New Yorker rather than British. They really also have great characterization, Sheridan definitely seems to have a bubbly perky Elle down. I wasn't expecting to kind of miss Christian Borle's Emmett, but I guess I did. Whatever, fun.

Day 64-1/22/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 8/18/07
Cast: Lea Michele, Jonathan Groff, Gerard Canonico, Johnny B Wright, Gideon Glick, Lauren Pritchard, Remy Zaken, Phoebe Strole, Jennifer Damiano, Matt Doyle, Skylar Astin
Type: Audio
So this is a performance that I’m quite used to. It’s all over youtube and it’s good quality so I’ve used it in a lot of my videos and dream casts. Mama Who Bore Me was decent, I can definitely respect Lea’s strength in her voice. Although that’s pretty much all I like about her voice-the strength. And Groff’s Melchior is ever-wonderful. It’s a little different with Gerard’s than it is with John’s. With John…it’s sort of like the friend who everybody has that has super strict parents who don’t let them know anything about sex, or babies and whatnot. Well, John’s not asian, but the principle applies. I’m not sure if I’m making my point properly, so I’ll restate it. What I mean is that Groff’s Melchior and John’s Moritz are very much equals, but Melchior has the upper hand in some ways. I’m still not explaining myself well, so I’m going to resort to real life examples. Moritz is like Katherine, Melchior would be like me. Now, I’m smarter and I’m better in school and I’m better at talking to guys and all that and I share my knowledge with Katherine. (Was that a run on sentence or what?) But with Gerard, Moritz is like a seventh grader in a freshman in a freshman/sophomore split class. My point is that Groff adapts well to Gerards in a way that it still works and Gerard still takes on a very real character that is both relateable and understandable. Bitch of Living was great, but seriously, what is wrong with Marianna? I mean, I totally understand not calling Brian, Gabe, or even Anthony back? But why would you not return Matt/Otto’s call? She’s an idiot. Okay, it’s hard to focus right now, I have guys on either side of me talking over me and I swear I’m going to kill one of them. Or both of them. Can’t they move? Okay, My Junk was good despite Lea. I’m not trying to be mean, but she stands out in a bad way. Jenn, Remy, and Phoebe all sound like cute young girls and Lea does not. But I do really like Jenn’s Martha. Touch Me was many kinds of wonderful. Especially Matt. His voice is so pretty :D I’m retarded. Although I don’t like Lea’s voice, it works pretty well duetting with Groff. I don’t know why, maybe Groff just has a chameleon type of voice, maybe he adapts to whoever he’s with but he always seems to sound good. Jenn’s Martha, she sound’s really angry and a little bit spiteful in DIKW and I think that realty works. She’s haunting in a different way. Lea really just makes the Beating Scene lose a lot of its meaning, because I sort of want her to be hurt. Matt sounds so pretty in the Reprise. It’s interesting to hear him sing the same words, but make it sound so completely different. This is one of Gerard’s early Moritzes and it still completely OWNS And Then There Were None. Totally Fucked was wonderful, Groff really explodes in this song. Those You’ve Known didn’t quite fit together, Lea’s voice didn’t sound quite right with Gerard’s. Song of Purple Summer was gorgeous. Lauren’s voice is wonderful.
Also something that I thought of: I didn't like the Adult Men, he used no characterization and every thing sounded exactly the same

Day 63-1/21/10
Show: Guys and Dolls
Date: 5/15/09
Cast: Lauren Graham, Oliver Platt, Craig Bierko, Titus Burgess, Mary Testa, Kate Jennings Grant
Type: Audio
Oddly, the second time listening, I didn’t like it as much as I did the first time. For me the standouts are Sarah and Sky, they have good voices and I like their acting, or what I hear of it. Lauren Graham falls quite flat for me. I don’t think singing is all that strong for her and her acting bothers me. It reminds me of on Gilmore Girls when Lorelai would put on these ridiculous characters to irritate people. But then it was funny, now it’s sort of just sad.

Day 62-1/20/10
Show: Avenue Q
Date: 9/20/08
Cast: Too lazy to look up
Type: Audio
Honestly, I have such a blast listening to this show whenever I do. It’s like I can’t be in a bad mood listening to it. And it always makes me laugh, and happy, and dance-y and everything. Not much worth saying otherwise, but I really liked the Kate’s voice.

Day 61-1/19/10
Show: Spring Awakening Abridged
Type: Audio
Okay, so I was asked to review this by someone.
It made some good points, but it wasn't quite as hilarious as I expected. I mean, yes I agree that there are weird lyrics, and scenes that seem badly done in every form but this didn't really make me be like "hahahahah!"
I understand it's "Abridged" but they said that the point of it was that you didn't have to see the show, but they don't really even explain the show well enough.
I thought they could have poked more fun at the actual lines of the show, but they didn't do that at all.
I actually thought they might have just as well called it Spring Awakening-The Simpsons Version, because that's what it reminded me of with the way they spoke and made jokes and snarky comments that didn't get more than a scoff.

Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 1/18/09

Oh gosh. This was an emotional rollercoaster. First, everyone was great, especially Alexandra.
There was so much excitement in the audience and you could tell that they were totally into it. And I was totally wrapped up in it. And it was so emotional. I can't really say much more about other than a lot of the great parts made me cry. Especially Song of Purple Summer. But let me explain to you my relationship with the show that makes it so emotional. In July, Rachel saw Spring Awakening (it may have been in June...yeah, it was June) and in July I got hooked on the OBCR and the pictures that I found on Google. By August I was becoming a youtube whore. But what was it, October? That closing was announced. I told my mom, who said she'd talk to my dad about letting me go, who said no.
It was too early. I know for some of you out there, you saw it. You met the cast. You got autographs, you did it all. But I did none of it. I was planning on doing all of that in December...of 2010. I thought the show would have lasted that long, I mean it was so popular. You have no idea how envious I am when people talk about all the people they've seen and when I read the reviews of how magical Touch Me, it kills me. And while I'm at it, do you know how mad I get when people complain about an understudy that they saw or something?
My point is that although I'm hiding it, today has been really rough on me. And last year was even worse.

Day 59-1/17/10
Show: The Stephen Schwartz Project
Date: 1/16/10
Cast: A lot of people
Type: Live
I look at the picture of all the cast together, and it looks a little bit like Glee. They're all High School. And wearing black costumes that look like nice, partiful, clothes from their closet. But the first song begins (late, BTW) and they use this smoke, and it's kind of odd because it isn't dry ice. It smells like baby powder and it burns my eyes. There was some serious problems with volume in the first song, Spark of Creation. The first thing I thought was "The sound guy should be shot" but then I remembered that he was my ride home. The second song, Day by Day was decent, but sort of boring and forgettable. The next song was sort of just annoying. Then came Lion Tamer, and the girl performing is the daughter of the woman sitting next to me. It was a good song, and she had a good voice but she was really awkward at sensually whipping herself. Cold Enough To Snow was good, but I thought he riffed/vibratoed a little too much, also there was a girl later on who used to much vibrato but I forget who. On The Right Track was cute, but it was a little strange when the girl took one of the actors' little brother and sat him on her chair and......
The Beautiful City/One Short Day mash-up was really cute. The girl in Meadowlark reminded me a lot of Lea Michele; her voice, the way she rounded her mouth, the way she stuck her neck out, the way her eyes closed a little bit. West End Avenue was good. Oh, I also remember Lost in The Wilderness was kind of cool with the lighting, because it was all smoky and white and the guys were just these dark shapes. If only the smoke wasn't killing me. I didn't really like the Popular/True Loves Kiss arrangement. Max was phenomenal in Out There, minus his slight flub. But he has this note which was like "Hooolllly shit." Ain't it Good was fine, but there was this part where they comes out in the aisles clapping and all that, and it wasn't enough to make me clap. Not like how Hair makes you want to clap so bad. When Colors of the Wind began I was like "Don't tell me it's a guy singing" but he was soo good. He had a beautiful voice and was quite emotional and made me tear up quite a bit. And they had a girl wearing a wolf mask also dancing. Solid Silver Platform shoes was cool, they had these bubbles come out which was kind of interesting. The Defying Gravity number was pretty good. I was watching it at first hoping that they would have the big ending, but when they got to it, the girl kind of fell flat. When You Believe was absolutely beautiful and wonderful and the ending number was good.
By the way, there was this guy who kind of looked like James Snyder so after awhile (Like, one song) I started imagining him in Bare, making out with Matt.

Day 58-1/16/10
Show: Next to Normal
Date: 2/20/08
Cast: Brian D'Arcy James, Alice Ripley, Jenn Damiano, Aaron Tveit, Corey Boardman, Asa Somers.
Type: Audio
I'm going to begin with comparison and contrast of the Broadway/Arena Stage to this version (Second Stage)
At first I had misread the date and thought it said 2/2/08 which was Morgan Weed as Natalie, but I didn't think she sounded any different than Jenn. But then Henry came in and I realized that I had misread the date. Corey sounds completely different from Adam. I didn't realize I loved Adam so much until I heard this. Corey sounded all wrong, he may have made a better Gabe. Adam sounds sweet, and kind of puppy-ish. And cute and all that. Corey didn't sound any of it. And his singing voice wasn't all that great either.

I'm going to begin with comparison and contrast of the Broadway/Arena Stage to this version (Second Stage)
- Don't like the "Let There Be Light" beginning
- Like the lyrics of Just Another Day more on Broadway
- J. Robert Spencer > Brian D'Arcy James
- Asa Somers > Louis Hobson
- Jenn's voice got better when she got to Broadway
- Alice's voice seems stronger and more stable here.
- Loved the Costco song, but I see why they took it out.
- Liked Growing Up Unstable, but it didn't move the plot.
- Perfect has more edge, but I liked Everything Else more. It sounded much better.
- Getting Better is not as good as Better Than Before
- The Broadway lyrics to Light are a lot better.
- Really missed having I've Been, which is a superpowerful song.
- Feeling Electric may have been good with Louis singing, but Asa did not sound good at all.

Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 5/18/08
Cast: Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele, Blake Bashoff, Blake Daniel, Matt Doyle, Brian Charles Johnson, Skylar Astin, Remy Zaken, Phoebe Strole, Lilli Cooper, Emma Hunton
Type: Audio
So, I'll forgive Lea for sounding so irritatingly polished. If I were to be nice, I'd just say that she's probably the strongest singer. But she's not right for the role. When she speaks, there's not believable way that she's a 14 year old girl. It reminds me of Lost in Yonkers, the grandmother takes care of Bella even though she's all grown up. That's a little more extreme, but the principle of the matter. I've been finding Christine terribly annoying in the stork scene. MWBMR was quite powerful, Lea's strength in her voice is quite a help here. I think all the other girls have been stronger than others in the same role, maybe not including Emma and especially Lilli. I really enjoy Groff's singing. He always looks like a sweet guy, but his voice is powerful with still effortlessness. I love how in ATK you feel his passion. This was a brilliant show overall, despite Blake. Touch Me was wonderful to listen to. So was My Junk, Matt was fantastic in it. The audience for this show was also fantastic. Constant cheering and excitement is actually great to listen to, although the screaming makes some bits hard to hear. There wasn't just enthusiasm for Groff and Lea, but for everyone. Matt got tons of Cheers in My Junk and Totally Fucked. And Word of Your Body Reprise was wonderful. Groff was great and Lea wasn't terrible, and they have pretty good dialogue with each other. And Whispering was also quite good. Totally Fucked got so much applause, there was a second track made for just the applause.
Lea's speech was wonderful and truly made me tear up.

Day 56-1/14/10
Show: Hair
Date: 9/16/09
Cast: Steel as Berger, Briana as Crissy, Matt as Hubert, Guinn as Mom, plus a ton of swings in the tribe
Type: Audio
I’ve got a good deal to say about Steel’s Berger so I’m just going to skip straight to it, because you know what I think about the rest.
Saying that the role of Berger was made for Will wouldn’t be right, because that’s not the case. But there’s something about the way he interprets it that feels right. His voice fits it in that he just sounds kind of goofy. I mean that what’s it is; his voice makes the character understandable and therefore tolerable (or maybe the other way around) But Steel. Well, Steel has a more normal voice. In the beginning, he seems like a regular guy chatting. He even speaks the audience like “Hey!” as in, “Ooooh, let’s talk.” Will is a comedian in the way that comedians interact the audience, he’s funny and he’s personal but there’s something about it that isn’t as scary. Not that I’m saying Steel’s is scary. His singing voice was great and impressive and pretty strong. I found that he fell a little flat in Karma Sutra/Stone Age and Don’t Put it Down. The voices he was using seemed a little odd and didn’t entirely work.
The part that I found the worst for him is when he’s being a goof or a jerk. Like the scene where Claude is asking for his help and the scene with the Satin shirt. Because he just sounds like a jerk. While Will’s Berger is just an epic goof who can’t seem to realize when he needs to be serious, Steel’s Berger is an ass. It’s very difficult to listen to, someone actually told me that he made them want to knock his teeth out.
Oh wow, I forgot that Briana was on as Crissy! She’s fantastic. Her Frank Mills is honestly amazing, it’s not as strong (meaning force in her singing) but I think it’s the prettiest out of all of them.
You may be saying to yourself (although I doubt that you are) “Why is she listening to Hair for the second day in a row, she doesn’t have that many audios and she loves it so shouldn’t she be smart and pace herself” well your answer is that I totally would pace myself and I had actually begun listening to a Spring Awakening audio. But then my teacher was presenting our assignment on Archetypes in a Hero’s journey and we were supposed to pick a story/movie/whatever and write how it fit into the different stages. She was going to the presentation and I didn’t know what to do when she said something (I was going to paste exactly what she said, but I can’t find the presentation) and I thought “Claude!” So my assignment ended up being this:
This should be obvious, but you are not welcome to take this for your own project, thesis, essay, or whatever.
Miraculous Birth: “The moon is in the 7th house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars…the dawning of the Age of Aquarius” Claude is the Aquarius who is destined for greatness or madness. He says that he’s just another human being with a number: #1005963297. An anti-hero of sorts, as he is a hippie who dropped out of High School, pretends to be from Manchester, and dream in life is to be invisible.
Call to Adventure: Claude’s draft notice comes in the mail. It is given to him by his parents who he looks at as what he doesn’t want to become. His dad claims that the army will make a man out of him.
Refusal: Claude rips up the draft notice and rejoices that he’s got life, along with his friends. Many other tribe members also face being drafted and hold the same outlook as Claude initially does.
Supernatural Aid: Jeanie gives Claude a guide on how to astro-project. He sees this as his answer.
Temptress and Temptor: Sheila and Berger. They both make it difficult for Claude to make a decision as he loves both of them dearly. They stray him and entice him with the idea of staying with the tribe. They agree to help him sneak out of the country.
Atonement with Father: Claude’s father says that Claude doesn’t like him, and says it with remorse. He then says that in a few months when/if Claude goes to fight, he’d be proud.
Crossing First Threshold: Claude does not burn his draft card at the Be-in like everybody else does. He then distances himself from the tribe as he contemplates, and then goes off on himself.
Belly of Whale: Claude has been missing for days and the tribe fears that something bad has happened to him.
Road of Trials: Claude tells the tribe that he went to the Army Induction center and tried to convince them against drafting him. He reenacts a sequence of being over enthusiastic so they would fear that he’d be unsafe in war areas. In truth, he did not do any of this. Instead he was meditating (part of the supernatural aid) He then gives his possessions away to the other members. The others were filled with joy from his generosity but also fear that his decision was made.
Meeting the Goddess: The joint that Berger gives him could be seen as an inanimate goddess. It should have been a regular joint, but it was actually laced with hallucinogen and Berger told him “You’ll see the light.” The human form could be seen as Jeanie, who proclaims herself as the “slum goddess of the lower east side” she also tells Claude he should be against the killing of people, but she says he’s a good guy whatever he does. The inanimate and the living goddesses intertwine when Jeanie smokes from her joint.
Apotheosis: Claude is overcome by the hallucinogen that is in the joint as he begins a painful trip.
The Ultimate Boon: The trip begins with Claude in a war outfit over his regular clothes and he is jumping out of a plane into Vietnam. Later in the trip, he appears to be invisible when people are unaware of his presence.
Magic Flight: Faced by a soldier with a gun, Claude embraces his peace loving side and puts a flower into the barrel of the gun. Chaos ensues as all the people he has encountered (African Americans, Indians, John Wilkes Booth, etc) begin attacking one and another. Within the madness, everybody tells of the pain, fear, and other bad aspects of the war as well as celebrating the murder of 3,500 Vietcong within one month. Claude is frightened and screams for Berger to get him out.
Rescue from Without: The phantoms of Claude’s trip “die” and fade away and the tribe wakes Claude up.
Crossing the Return Threshold: Claude explains to his friends that he doesn’t want to do anything other than be invisible. Because they cannot make that happen they plan to protest the draft although they are unable to give him advice, aid, or comfort.
Master of Two Worlds: Claude mysteriously disappears and then appears during the protest. He is dressed in military uniform with his hair cut short. The tribe cannot see him, but he is invisible and is happy because he can perform miracle which is the only thing he wanted to do.
Freedom to Live: In the end, Claude is revealed as dead, but he succeeded in what he wanted (in a way). He does not have to live a boring life as a pointless human being. As previously shown, he is invisible and can watch his friends live.

Day 55-1/13/10
Show: Hair
Cast: Paris as Claude. Although not only do I not know the rest, I can't even find it on my list!
Date: 10/10/09
Type: Audio
Another wonderful show, but honestly I’m running out of things to say. There were some really pretty harmonies that I heard in Good Morning Starshine. It also occurred to me how amazing I think Kober’s Maggie voice is. I tweeted him and asked if it was difficult to come up with, and he told me that it took many tries including something that sounded British! LOL, I love him! For some odd reason I love the part of the trip with the Native Americans “Little Beaver say white man die!...*thud* ow!” Loved Paris Claude, I want to hear him with Steel as Berger (who I haven’t heard at all yet) because I’ve heard that they are amazing together.
In fact here’s my marginally realistic totally awesome mostly understudy cast:
Jackie as Sheila, Paris as Claude, Steel as Berger. Yes I kind of stole this from Sami, but it would be just so cool to see. Something about the fact that they look like the perfect trio. Bryce as Berger would be awesome, but I need time to figure out who he’d be good opposite.
Jay as Woof, both he and Paris seem like very good Woofs because they can seem kind of young and innocent and all that. But we’ll go with Jay, who I haven’t heard as Woof yet.
Megan L as Mom, but with Ali Guinn as Buddhalirama. That’s really maximizes the funny and amazing.
Briana or Hannah as Crissy. I love Briana’s Crissy, but Hannah could be quite good. Although I don’t know if she covers the role.
Megan R or Hannah as Jeanie. Well actually, I don’t know. I looked it up and I don’t know if Hannah understudies Jeanie because she wasn’t listed in the BroadwayWorld.com cast. Megan was pretty good, but I think I might really want Jackie! I can’t even imagine it, but it may very well be amazing.
Krystal Joy Brown as Dionne, and Chasten as Abe. Although I would like to see Chasten as Dionne I heard that the producers didn’t like it and don’t want her going on again unless an emergency.
Let’s go with Matt DeAngelis as General/Hubert/JWB so that Josh Lamon can go on as Dad/Margaret. It would be so odd to not see/hear Kober in that role. Because you know how I said mentioned having a “shock to the ears” in the most recent Rock of Ages review? This would be even more so. Because it’s difficult to even fathom anyone else as the role. Which makes me eager to hear the show after the cast changes. It’s kind of a role that you’re supposed to do your way, so we’ll see.

Day 54-1/12/10
Show: Rent
Date: Forget, sometime in 2000
Cast: Norbert Leo Butz as Roger, forget the rest.
Type: Audio
As bad as it is, the only thing I knew of was the movie. Well, this was pretty good. Knowing the movie made it not as confusing as it might have been.

Day 53-1/11/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 1/11/09
Cast: Eryn as Wendla (last), Matt as Melchior (last on Broadway), Jesse as Hanschen
Type: Audio :'(
Call me the genius who forgot to sync her ipod. I have a much better quality version of this, but of course the only one that I had on my ipod was the more muffled version with clicking in the right ear. Very irritating. I think I'll chop of my right ear soon.
Mama Who Bore Me was quite lovely and beautiful. Very unusually, there was applause after it and usually there is not!
The stork scene wasn't a huge stand-out. Decent, but I never really love that scene.
Mama Who Bore Me Reprise was pretty fierce.
All That's Known was totally wonderful, oh that voice is so wonderful to hear.
Bitch of Living was awesome and totally bringing the energy. And it got an amazingly huge applause.
Matt and Gerard work so well together, it's fun to listen to.
Caitlin was not fun to listen to when talking with the girls. Eryn was quite good, probably better than I've found Socha to be a lot.
Jesse sounded almost like he was trying to be like Matt in My Junk. I just wasn't into him so much, his singing fell short and everything.
All of Matt and Eryn's scenes sounded really good and natural, she has this naturally high voice and he has a naturally soft voice, but they are both normal so it works.
This was just a wonderful show, many people who were there say that it's been one of the best performances ever.

Show: Next to Normal
Date: 12/14/08
Cast: Alice Ripley, J. Robert Spencer, Aaron Tveit, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat, Louis Hobson
Type: Audio
This was completely normal for a Next to Normal audio. Always emotional and powerful. It grips me possibly more than Spring Awakening does. So moving.

Day 51-1/9/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Cast: Morgan as Georg, Jesse as Melchior, Rest of the closing cast
Date: 11/20/08
Type: Audio
Socha still sounds like she wants to be young, but MWBM was pretty good. The reprise was not all that strong, but the voices do fit well. Jesse was better than Hunter in many ways, but that’s not exactly hard. All That’s Known was quite good. It was a bummer that BOL hadn’t been recorded, I would have liked to hear the understudies and Matt. I’d say Caitlin wasn’t as bad as she has been at times. My Junk was fairly cute, the girls mesh well vocally. Matt’s Hanschen is well, wonderful and also realistic. I kind of could picture a guy being like that. Morgan’s Georg worked alright, sounding kind of nervous and eager. Definitely liked Jesse and Gerard working together. Morgan’s Touch Me was…beautiful beyond belief. I just wish he had been even more powerful in his second solo, other than that it sounded fantastic and gorgeous. When Socha is talking to Jesse, she just sounds way to young and he sounds more natural than she does. I didn’t like her in WOYB so much, he was fine again. Amanda’s DIKW was haunting, I really do like her voice, she sounds very comfortable with the singing and she really seems effortless. Emma was too sexy yet again, but the duet was perfect they both sounded very equal. My problem in the Beating scene is that Jesse just sounds too angry in general and the whole beating is just ugh overkill. And jeez, Socha just sounded unnatural and high and “young.” For once I am actually remembering Gabe! I liked his WOYBR, I like it more than his Touch Me solo, it really works when his voice is soft like that. Gerard owns And Then There Were None, he just brings all of his energy and emotion to it, and it’s wonderful to hear. Jesse in Mirror Blue Night is fairly good, his voice is kind of deeper. I sort of hates the hayloft today. Socha’s voice is irritating the living crap out of me, she’s adapting to Jesse’s Melchior all that well. He has a deepish matureish voice, and she sounds all high pitched and it’s soo hard to listen to. The Guilty Ones was good, Socha sounded pretty good here. I have no idea why, but in this audio there is Guilty Ones with Hunter as Melchior. I think its because TGO wasn’t recorded from that night, so a different performance was subbed in. Gerard was great in Don’t Do Sadness, but I feel like he should just own it a little bit more. I mean really, just EXPLODE. He sort of only explodes. Not in big capital letters. Emma sounds just too sexy in Blue Wind, but that doesn’t mean her voice isn’t totally beautiful. Left Behind sounded like a bit of a struggle for Jesse, just like it was too high. TF was missing a little something from Jesse. Oh, but Matt was wonderful. That note. I think Jesse could have put just some more passion into it. WOYBR was 50000 types of amazing. Oh Matt, so good at seducing. No wonder he got himself such a cute boyfriend. Must have been easy ;) Whispering wasn’t as bad as it has been, but not great. TYK and SOPS were both pretty good.

Day 50-1/8/10
Show: Bare
Date: 2000
Cast: Not sure. It's on wikipedia.
Type: Sounboard
This was alright to listen to, and really fine. But I hate not knowing the right lyrics, it’s very disappointing. Also, I gotta say that I like the vocals on the CD a hell of a lot more. Oh, also it drives me insane that I don’t understand all of the catholic stuff…what’s the deal with Mary? I don’t get it.

Day 49-1/7/10
Show: Hair
Date: 10/27/09
Cast: Nicole Lewis as Sheila, Paris Remillard as Claude.
Type: Audio :(
This is quite odd and disorderly:
Rachel's mom's improving, but her buddha is very weird. I just don't like it. 3500 was amazing and powerful, I got such a rush from it and had to play it again.
I really enjoyed Paris's Claude. More than I was expecting to. He has just a wonderful, smooth voice. And what a wonderful singer.
Nicole's Sheila was quite good. Characteristically, it was spot on. But singing it wasn't quite as good as Caissie's. I didn't like that is she sometimes sounded like she was saying "Easy tibby..."
Hair was great and energetic.
Still love everyone that I did last time, finding myself liking Krystal as Abe even more after hearing her Dionne.
Paris was wonderfully powerful in FF/LTSSI, as was Nicole.

So when I originally flipped to this, I assumed that it was the full OBC including Aaron. Every time Gabe spoke or sang I was bewildered because it didn't sound like Aaron, I thought it sounded more like Kyle if anything but Kyle wasn't in the cast. This irritated me pretty much until the very end when I finally checked the cast list.
But everything else was wonderful. It's been awhile since I listened to a Next to Normal audio and this was really great. I didn't fall asleep on the bus while listening!

Day 47-1/5/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Date: 10/7/08
Type: Audio
Cast: Hunter Parrish, Alexandra Socha, Morgan Karr, Emma Hunton, Caitlin Kinnunen, Amanda Castanos, Andrew Durand, Gabe Violett, Blake Daniel, Matt Doyle.
Alexandra: Her biggest problem for me is making her voice higher to sound younger. It doesn't work and isn't necessary. I was most impressed in The Guilty Ones, she sounded truly pretty. Everything else was pretty much the same.
Hunter: I just don't like him. His voice is all wrong for me.
Morgan: Such a beautiful voice, but every time he spoke real lines all I thought was "why is Ernst having Moritz's lines?" Just because he is a great singer doesn't mean he should cover the role.
Emma: For once she didn't sound "sexy" in Dark I Know Well. Instead she sounded haunting and lovely. But she went back to sounding sexy in Blue Wind. She was pretty good in Song of Purple Summer.
Caitlin: In the radical scene she is pretty much awful. It's as if she's trying to say all of her lines as loud and fast as she can. But in My Junk itself she's somewhat softer and smoother. She was a little bit better in the secret scene as well.
Amanda: My favorite part is when she says "For god's sake, papa beat me enough as it is?" she sounds so urgent and worried that she accidentally blurted it out. Everything else was pretty
good.
Gabe: I just never notice him.
Blake: He's great, as usual.
Matt: All kinds of fantastic. He really just sounded so on. Word of Your Body Reprise was absolutely fantastic, I was starting to feel seduced. His line in Totally Fucked was absolutely incredible and he was great in My Junk. There were a few other moments where I thought I could hear him; Mirror-Blue Night, I Believe, possibly Song of Purple Summer.
This was recorded in the front row, so Song of Purple Summer sounded unbelievably cool. You could hear a bunch of beautiful harmonies as they moved around.

Day 46-1/4/10
Show: Spring Awakening
Cast: Christy Altomare, Perry Sherman, Blake Bashoff, Steffi D, Andy Mientus, Ben Moss, Matt Shingledecker, Anthony Lee Medina, Sarah Hunt, Krystina Alabado, Gabby Garza.
Christy: My favorite song was TGO, everything else was typical and therefore I wasn't in love with her. Hated her in MWBMR.
Sarah: I hate that in the radical scene, her voice quivers. I also hate that she says goes high when she says "dark" in "there's a part I can't tell about the dark I know well" in DIKW.
Perry: Very good! Love his singing and his acting his great. He had an unfortunate crack in MBN. he was awesome and then it happened.
Krystina: Quite good. I just think she tried to speak as if she were younger by making her voice higher. It just didn't sound natural
Ben: I hate how annoyingly high his voice is
Andy: Sounds like a girl a lot.
Anthony: Fine. Hardly noticed
Matt: Same as Anthony, but was quite weak in TOUCH ME.
Blake: Disklike as usual.
Steffi: Same as Blake
A problem I have with this cast is sometimes their voices just don't mesh. Mama Who Bore Me Reprise doesn't quite harmonize as it should and even when they speak it sounds like they're all saying their own lines, there's not enough playing off of each other. I noticed this in the scene where Martha confesses her secret. Thea says "My uncle Klaus says..." Martha responds "That must be" but the way Krystina and Sarah said the lines, they sounded disconnected. The Guilty Ones was one of my favorites today, Perry and Christy sounded really good together. Also in Word of Your Body Reprise, this must have been recorded onstage because it picks up really pretty harmonies from someone (I think it might be Krystina, but I'm not 100% sure) and it picks up harmonies every now and then in My Junk.

Day 44-1/2/10
Show: [title of show]
Date: 9/5/08
Cast: Hunter Bell, Jeff Bowen, Heidi Blickenstaff, Susan Blackwell
Type: Audio
This is not typically my favorite way of first hearing a show. I usually prefer listening to the OBCR or seeing a good quality video to start with. But I guess an audio would work in a pinch.
I liked this show, it was easy to understand and follow and some of the musical numbers were cute. I do have to say I think it is a little overrated. Now that it's over I can't exactly say I'm excited for my next listen or anything.
It was cleverly done of course, but the emotion near the end seemed forced. From the fight that they had till the end was a little, well, not interesting to me. Maybe I was getting tired or bored, but I thought it was both tiring and boring.
I have Two Nobodies In New York stuck in my head right now.

New Years Resolution
So usually I'm not a person who makes New Years Resolutions, but this year I made a small one. Well, maybe it's not small, but it's manageable. My new years resolution is to incorporate more shows into my repertoire.
See it may seem like I'm into a ton of shows, but really I don't think it's many. I really like Hair, Spring Awakening, and Next to Normal. There are shows that I'm into; Legally Blonde, Wicked, Bye Bye Birdie, Avenue Q, Rock of Ages, Addams Family, American Idiot (kind of), and then that's sort of it.
Vivian pointed out that when I like a show I get to the point that I know pretty much everything about it. But I still think that I need more shows. Especially with THE CHALLENGE I want to have more shows. One thing is that it's not all that fun listening to Spring Awakening for multiple days in a row.
All the more so, I look at my trading list every now and then. And it's like How can I have so many shows and have never listened to most of them? Well, I want to make that question pretty much go away.
I'd really love suggestions of good shows that I should give a look or listen to!

Day 43-1/1/10
Show: Next to Normal
Date: 8/15/09
Type: Live
Cast: Alice Ripley. J Robert Spencer, Jenn Damiano, Kyle Dean Massey, Adam Chanler-Berat, Louis Hobson
This was the show that I saw. Live. Second row. Awesomeness and all that. Well, I'm not actually going to write up the review that I had made because it doesn't make much sense and discusses stagedooring more than the show itself.
Here are some highlights of the review (and the night):
-Alice is in character every second and almost always steals your attention.
-Bobby Spencer uses a lot of vibrato but if you ignore it his performance blows you away. So much emotion and really just makes you cry.
-Kyle is not Aaron (which you later find is a good thing) he holds his own and is super good looking. It's interesting to watch him "watch" the other characters. And he's very expressive.
-Jenn looks absolutely gorgeous.
-Adam's adorable and I get the hype about him.
-Louis was quite the rockstar.
-With the exception of Kyle is sounded so much like the CD.
-I've Been made me cry
-I also cried many times in Act 2 (How Could I Ever Forget, I Am The One Reprise)
The rest of my review is just plain stupid.
